One of the largest senior living organizations in the United States required support to standardize how integrations and divestitures were planned and executed across the organization.
The client lacked formalized playbooks, leading to inconsistent execution across business units and limited visibility into transaction progress. Previous integration and divestiture efforts had not been systematically documented, causing operational silos, repeated lessons learned, and inconsistent governance practices across transactions.
Without a structured framework, each transaction required teams to rebuild execution approaches from scratch, creating bottlenecks, delays, and increased execution risk.
The Approach & Solution
Burnie Group worked closely with the client to develop standardized integration and divestiture playbooks designed to improve consistency, governance, and execution visibility across future transactions.
We facilitated workshops across functional areas to document milestones, activities, ownership structures, dependencies, and lessons learned from prior transactions. The work included identifying critical cross-functional dependencies and developing milestone-based matrix views across Operations, Facilities, Care Services, and other key functions to improve accountability and coordination.
Burnie Group incorporated best practices and lessons learned from prior integration and divestiture engagements across all workstreams to help standardize execution approaches and strengthen governance consistency.
We also embedded Burnie Group’s proprietary tools, templates, governance artifacts, and project management frameworks into the playbooks prior to transitioning them to the client organization.
The final deliverables included two dedicated playbooks, one focused on integrations and one focused on divestitures, structured to provide both executive-level guidance and detailed execution planning.
The Result
Burnie Group developed enterprise-wide playbooks that established a more structured and repeatable approach for future integrations and divestitures.
Across both playbooks, nearly 1,000 milestones and 5,000 activities were defined, creating detailed execution roadmaps across functional areas and transaction phases. In addition, more than 150 templates and supporting artifacts were compiled to support governance, project management, communication, and execution activities.
The playbooks improved cross-functional visibility, accountability, consistency, and execution readiness for future transactions across the organization.
